Welcome to the inhale exhale success podcast where we help women entrepreneurs create a life They love feel confident in their body and build a business without burning out by equipping them with the best tools strategies and my proven formula Every business woman must have. My name is Dee Medina.
Let's get started and be successful together.
Hola, hola. Welcome back to another episode of inhale, exhale success. Listen, I get it. The morning mom hustle. I remember being knee deep in toys on the floor, dirty dishes in the sink while getting the kids ready and out the door to all their practices, all while simultaneously trying to brainstorm for a deadline for work.
It was a juggling act for sure, but guess what, if you're there now, I want you to know that there's ways to feel less like a circus performer and more like the empowered woman you truly are. Okay, so let's dive in and talk about delegation. It's not a four letter word, my friend. It is a superpower. And let's face it, we can't do it all.
And trying will only lead you to burnout, resentment, and overreaction. All of those other negative thoughts and feelings that we have when we are taking on too much. So how do we delegate effectively? First things first, you have to ditch the guilt trip. Asking for help doesn't mean you're a bad mom, wife, or woman.
It makes you a smart one. You deserve some time and energy for yourself without the needs of tons of coffee or energy drinks that later cause you to crash and take a toll on your body. And freeing up that space allows you to be more present and focused when you are with those that you love or doing the things that you need to do or want to do.
Now I'm going to share with you five things you need to do to start delegating effectively so you can keep your sanity. Okay? First thing you have to identify what tasks. are to be delegated. You can do this by making a list of everything that's on your plate and be honest. It includes household chores, errands you're running, child care duties, and even those personal projects that you'd love to just get done and over with.
Then I want you to ask yourself. Are there errands I can outsource? For example, I get my groceries delivered, which is a huge saver in time, energy, and gas. Another question you can ask yourself is, can my partner handle bath time or bedtime stories more often? Could we hire a cleaning service or a babysitter a few hours a week?
Start small, but identify those tasks that would free up the most valuable time for you. Second, we got to communicate clearly. Clearly, my friend, once you identify those things that you have on your plate, I don't want you to just drop them on someone's lap. Explain to the person what needs to be done.
For example, if your partner will take care of bedtime, then the desired outcome for you is having them asleep by 8 20. So you both can have time together. And if you're a single mom, like I am, and have older children, have them help you with the dishes while you get your younger ones to bed. Everyone has a different situation, but the point is to communicate your needs and be open to questions as well.
The clearer you are, the smoother the delegation will go. And the third step is let go of perfectionism. This is a tough one for all women, and myself included. But remember, the goal is Progress, not perfection. Trust that your partner, your family, or your helper can get the job done, even if it's not exactly how you would do it.
They can never do it like you can, but they can do it just as good as you if you communicate clearly what you are expecting, what it is that you want, and by when. And the fourth step is show appreciation, girl. A simple thank you goes a long way. When it comes to me getting my youngest to do something over and over, I have to give positive reinforcement.
Whenever he does a behavior or an action that I really like, I praise the bejesus out of him. Because, I want more of that. So when you are praising the behavior that you want and are really appreciative, guess what happens? They do more of that thing. So let the people who help you know how much you appreciate them, their support, their help, what they're doing, and I'm sure you appreciate it when you get it.
Right? So now you got to do the same. And last but not least, start small and build up. I know as women who run it all, you have an endless list of things that need to be done. But don't try to delegate everything at once. Begin with the smaller tasks. What is something that you can delegate today? What is something that you can ask your husband to do for you today?
What is something that you can have your kid help you with today? What is something that you can have a friend come in and help you with? I want you to ask yourself those questions and know that it is a possibility for you to start delegating right now. Today, and then once you start delegating and get comfortable with it, then you can gradually increase to the complex tasks that you need when it comes to business, who can set up and CRM for you, who can edit the clip for you, who can help you with social media, just start small and then work your way up your list.
So remember that delegation is a skill. You might not get it perfect right away, but the more that you practice, the more comfortable you'll become. And trust me, the payoff is huge. You'll have more time, more energy and less stress, which means a happier, healthier you. And in the future, we're going to dive into how to delegate effectively from how to communicate clearly to setting expectations.
But for now, I want you to let this be your permission slip to ask for help. You're not a superhero, although you might feel like one some days. And building a support system is the key. to navigating this wonderful and messy world of life and motherhood. So I want you to remember you are capable and amazing.
Implement these steps today and watch how you can create a life where you're not just stressing and surviving. You're thriving. Well, that does it for today's episode.
