My name is Dee Medina, let's get started and be successful together.

hola, hola. Welcome back to another episode. I am excited about today because we are tackling a big hump on this lovely Wednesday, a hump that many, many moms are struggling with, and that is procrastination. And if that's you mama I first want to start off by saying that procrastination is normal and it happens to all of us, but when you let it go on for too long You and your business goals do and will suffer. You won't hit the goals that you have for yourself. Then you will start on the journey of self loathing and self doubt that leads to overworking. Then becoming a burnout cycle. And we're here to prevent that because we don't want you to go down that road. So let's get into what procrastination really is, what it can look like. And for many, it's the feeling of frustration when you consider yourself to be working hard, but yet you're not seeing much progress in your life or your business because you're constantly putting things off Or you find yourself being distracted and I want you to trust me when I say this. It can happen at all levels of entrepreneurship. Let's say when you're getting ready to start your business or a big product launch a launch that could be huge for your business So, you know, you need to focus on the most important tasks like Finishing your marketing plan working with your team and making sure that Every detail of the vision that you have for your business or your product is accounted for, but instead you find yourself doing everything else. First maybe you decide that your desk needs to be super clean, so you spend an hour arranging your pens, straightening your notebooks, and wiping down every surface. Once that's done, maybe you hop onto checking your emails. You tell yourself, just a quick look, right? But soon you're deep into reading them and replying to emails that aren't necessarily urgent.

And in the middle of that, your phone starts ringing with all the social media notifications. So then you take a quick peek and before you know it, you're scrolling through Instagram, watching funny videos, liking your besties posts, and leaving comments, and hours go by without you even noticing.

But because you're someone who's so determined to be productive, you decide to multitask. You have your business plan set up. You go sit at your desk, you open your computer, you start planning your launch, and then your phone is playing a YouTube video on how to be more productive. You start replying to texts, you're checking the news and. Even thinking about what to cook for dinner. But by the end of the day, it feels like you've been busy non stop. And when you look at your to do list, the most important tasks for your business or your launches are still there. Untouched. This happens a lot to my clients. Procrastination sneaks in. It makes you feel busy without getting anything important done. Your desk is clean. Your emails are answered. You're up to date on social media. But the real work, the tasks that will move your business forward, are still waiting for your attention. And you can't figure out why it happens. Maybe you have an idea, But sometimes one isn't even sure why. And before we dive deep into the why, if you're ready to put a stop to procrastination and take your business to the next level and hit those multiple four to six figure months without burning out, I'd love to invite you to join my waitlist for my upcoming course designed specifically for mompreneurs who need help designing their dream schedules. The link to join is in my show notes. Okay, so why do we procrastinate even when we know it's counterproductive? Well, I'm going to share a couple reasons that I have discovered while working through procrastination with my clients. And one of the obvious is because well, we're mompreneurs, we juggle multiple roles. We're business owners, we're moms, we're partners, and we're a lot more and the constant role switching that we have to do as mompreneurs can lead us to mental fatigue and physical exhaustion. Making it easier to put off those important tasks that might feel challenging at the moment.

Another big reason is anxiety when one is anxious about a task whether it's because You fear failure or you're worried about the outcome or you just feel overwhelmed. It is tempting to avoid it altogether. Anxiety can paralyze you, making it difficult to start or continue those important tasks. And this next one is a biggie for a lot of my mompreneurs, and that is perfectionism. That is another culprit in procrastinating when we have this really important thing that we want to do, then you start beginning to worry about not doing it perfectly. And when you start thinking that it needs to be perfect, that also can become overwhelming and making it easy to avoid the thing altogether. And if you find yourself a little on the perfectionist side, that is okay. Actually, I have a book for you and that's called The Perfectionist Guide to Losing Control. Many women think that being a perfectionist is a bad thing. And this book really helped me understand the types of perfectionism and allows you to accept the type of perfectionist that you are. So you know how to work with yourself instead of against yourself. So that's a really good book if you're a reader like me, and let's not forget about burnout. When we are exhausted because your kiddo didn't let you sleep, your boss made you work overtime, or there was an emergency in the family, it really is hard to muster up that energy to tackle those important tasks for your business, When you're burnt out, you have brain fog. You have little to no energy that makes even the simplest of things that you need to do Feel like they're going to take hours and it's like your brain has decided to take a vacation without informing you so you end up stuck in a cycle of just being busy but not productive, which only adds to your stress and exhaustion. So when it comes to getting important things done for yourself or your business, and you find yourself procrastinating, I want you to ask yourself, what am I avoiding and why? What are my top three priorities today? Sometimes we pack on so much or we have so many things that we have to do it can feel overwhelming. So ask yourself, what are my top three priorities today? Am I trying to do too much at once? Have I taken any breaks to recharge and help with my anxiety? What tasks can I delegate or even postpone? Some things we feel are absolutely an urgency, but when you actually take a look at those things, they are not. Your tia can wait. Your friend can wait for the coffee date until next month. It's okay if you want to call your mom at the end of the week instead of every single day, every hour of the day. It's okay if your partner wants to cook dinner. It's okay to say no. It's okay to ask for help. Everything that feels urgent is not an emergency. And also ask yourself, how can I simplify this damn to do list? Now, if you take a couple of minutes to answer those questions, you might find some real simple and actionable steps that you can take to overcome procrastination immediately. All you need to do is take some time to really think about these things. And during that time with yourself, you might also find that you can do a bit better with time blocking or scheduling your time that will help you reduce the time you spend by switching between the things you need to do, have to do, and want to do. And also breaking down those larger tasks that you have into smaller, manageable steps. Make things more doable and help you feel less anxious. Because the amount of times that I have helped myself and my clients through these steps never gets old because at the beginning of something new, our brains like to make things harder than they need to. But we can show ourselves that life can be simple by breaking shit down. And I don't know for you, but for me and my clients, it's an instant dopamine hit to see all the steps laid down and just ready to get done. Because that's when all those short breaks throughout your day are going to feel extra refreshing knowing that your mind helped you improve your overall productivity and you didn't just do busy work, because you decided on hiring help for your business with a coach, a CPA, or a bookkeeper. And maybe you got your partner to pitch in more at home. Because in order for you to get to where you want to go, we understand that delegation, consistency, and routine can help with everything when it comes to minimizing decision fatigue and increase efficiency. I just want you to imagine what can happen when you set those clear priorities by identifying the most important tasks that will move your business forward. What will the time blocking help you carve out? How can you make sure that those dedicated chunks of time for focused work helps each task get the attention that it deserves? So as you build a solid routine, you'll notice the difference. You'll not only be getting more done, but you're also feeling more in control and less stress because procrastination will be a thing of the past. The chaos that once filled your days will begin to disappear when your clients start appearing because you'll be prepared for them. You'll have more energy to enjoy the quality time with your family and still making significant progress in your business. It's not about working harder. It's about working smarter and taking care of yourself in the process.. So remember, you're not alone in this journey. We all have those days where procrastination gets the better of us but with just a few adjustments with asking yourself some real honest questions and a new focus on self care, you can turn those things around and you can start making real progress. Okay. I hope you found today's episode helpful, my friend until next time.
